River Plate wins Soccer Match by 1 Point!

River Plate wins the game by 1 point. The first goal was scored
by Saint Martin 15 minutes in to the first half. The next goal was scored
by River Plate near the end of the first half. The last and final goal was scored by River
Plate 50 minutes in to the 2nd half. No intermission entertainment show
was put on. Popcorn, snacks and beverages were sold through out
the stands. Flyers were thrown and the crowd was wild, cheering, jumping and drumming. T- shirts. flags and other things were sold just outside the gates. It was a very exciting day for those who had tickets. When the game was done the visitors got to leave a half an hour before the home team fans to prevent violence.

5 Star Restaurant Review on La Cabrera

La Cabrera is the best restaurant my family has been to in Argentina. A definite must go to when visiting Buenos Aires. La Cabrera is located on the corner of Cabrera and Thames. There are actually two La Cabreras. The second La Cabrera is located a block from the other on 5127 Cabrera avenue.
My dad was the one to rate the wine he rated it a 5 star. The name of the wine the adults had was a melbec called Nieto Senetiner. The wine was peppery and had a very complex flavour. The adults enjoyed the wine.
The appetizer we had, we rated another 5 star. It was traditional Argentine Sausage with two sauces on the side. One sauce was roasted red pepper puree and the other was sun-dried tomatoes with pepper. We all thought the appetizer was very, very good.
The main coarse was remarkable. Of coarse like every thing else this had to get a 5 star.
The adults had Beef Tenderloin and Medallions of Pork. You have to remember to only order 1 main coarse for the table because these plates are huge (1 main coarse per 3 people). I had plain noodles with butter and Parmesan cheese (because I don’t eat very much) and it was great.
The dessert received a high rating of 4 stars. We had the molten individual chocolate Lava Cake. It was very rich. My family enjoyed the dessert.
The main menu had a good selection. That selection included grills, pastas and salads. The dessert menu also had a good variety of choices.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was another 5 star. It was very rustic. It was a mixture of old and new. i am dum
The service was very good so we gave it 5 too! The waiters were attentive to our needs but the time between the appetizer and the main coarse was almost too fast. At the end of our dinner he brought a huge lollypop pole for us to pick a lollypop. We went home that night with our stomachs full and our hands full of lollypops.
Like I said La Cabrera is a definite must go to in Buenos Aires.

I'm just going to answer a few of the questions left in the comments before I do my entry. We found out we were robbed when we got in the taxi and went to pay the cab diver but there was nothing in my Dad's wallet. We did not contact the police because we one couldn't speak Spanish very well and to figured it wasn't worth the trouble. No, I didn't eat a whole chocolate cake I only ate 1 piece. My brother's foot is fine and we did find some Canadian food. The taxis are black and yellow and look like bumble bees. I am looking forward to Australia it is the place I want to go to the most. Well I guess Australia is tied with Japan because of my birthday.

Sunday we went to an Argentine soccer game. In Argentina they are so passionate about soccer that the visitors were caged in and they let the visitors go an half an hour early to prevent violence. The score ended up 2-1 for our team (river plate). I wanted to cheer for the other team but i was afraid i might get shot :0. 5 gun shots were fired before the game though no one was hurt. I spent the second half of the game making paper airplanes out of the flyers people threw and throwing them at tourists :). People sold popcorn, drinks and snacks throughout the stands. I had a great time though I was scared.

Yesterday, Yoli –a friend from home – came to visit us in Buenos Aries. She brought with her my NEW IPOD! It’s a lime green, Chromatic. After buying a few songs and charging it we went for dinner. We went to Cabana Las Lilas. The bread was a big bubbly pita held up by a giant clothespin. There were slimy buns and giant steaks. I had dessert only I had CHOCOLATE CAKE! After eating we drove back we had to take two taxies because there were 5 of us. I went with my dad. Our taxi diver took a longer route but he drove like a mad man. So we beat the other taxi home. I’m glad to finally have some company (that’s not my own family).

We can now be classified as stupid tourists!
Today something very strange happened to us. We were on our way to an art museum
when a lady started talking to us in Spanish. She said to follow, so we did. Once we were away from the trees that we were under, she started wiping our backs. We realized that we had something on our backs. First we thought it was bird crap but there was too much and then we thought it was tree sap but there was none on the ground. The lady and a man helped us get cleaned up. I was lucky though and didn’t have much on me.

After taking pictures of the strange trees that crapped on us, we got in a taxi and headed home to change our clothes. We asked the taxi diver what it was and he said – in Spanish – that it was sap from a tree bud. When my dad took his wallet out to pay the taxi diver there was nothing in it. The people took about $500 cash from my dad’s wallet and his Visa card when they were pretending to get the stuff off of him.

Pretty smart trick! What they did was pretend they were tourists. They then squirted us with a liquid that looked like the sap or bird crap. Then while they cleaned us up they managed to take my dads wallet out of his back pocket – the pocket was buttoned up - take what they wanted from his wallet and then put it back after. All the time we were looking at the strange trees wondering where the stuff came from and thanking the people for helping us. They must have been laughing pretty hard. I feel stupid.

Buenos Aires Argentina- My First Impressions

Buenos Aires is very different than Mendoza. It is has more people and busier traffic. In the night you can’t sleep because of the noise the traffic makes. This is the biggest house so far. Well it’s more of an apartment than a house. The elevator to get up to the huge apartment is one of those old ones that you have to slide the door open. The elevator only fits 3 people. To flush the toilet you have to pull a string and there is a balcony in almost every room including the bathroom. If you stand on one balcony and then get some one stand on the balcony farthest away from you, you are about a block apart. We have a maid that cooks us breakfast every morning. Everything in this house is old but I think this house is great.

Buenos Aires is richer (that’s probably because it’s the capital)
It is a better place for shopping
And its way better than Mendoza because….

Today we went to the zoo. There were a lot of animals kept in cement cages. It was not a good home for the animals. There were too many animals for me to name so I just named my favourite one. My favourite animal was the bobcat. It was very tiny and looked a lot like Maggie’s cat. So I named it Nikki after Maggie’s cat. We bought some popcorn there that had sugar on it instead of butter. We saw some people feed the popcorn to the monkeys after we had ate half the bag. We wondered if we had just eaten animal food. I had fun at the zoo.

We woke up early today to go to The Carrusel Parade. It was made up of horses, buggies and a few floats. We watched the parade from terrace at the Park Hyatt. There was food, drinks, dessert and a good spot to watch the parade from. You know how in London they throw candy off the floats? Well, Mendoza throws fruits and wine tetra packs. There was one float that threw full sized melons into the crowd and one lady got hit in the head by an apple.

Tonight we went to a show called Acocentral where they crowned the Queen of Mendoza the province. It was really late in the night and I slept through most of it. The bus ride there was 5 km and it took 2 hours to get there because of heavy traffic. We got there just as the show started. It was way too loud even though we sat at the back of the stadium. We watched 2 and ½ hours of dance followed by ½ an hour of voting and crowning the queen. Then we took our tour bus back to our vacation home. When we got home my brother ran across the street too fast and got his foot ran over by a car. His foot was fine, broken bones. I didn’t enjoy myself I wish I hadn’t gone.
